JOHN M. BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

This is the application for the John M. Bailey Memorial Scholarships.  Multiple scholarships are awarded annually by the Connecticut Criminal Justice Educational & Charitable Association, Inc. to high school seniors enrolling in college or undergraduates enrolled in college who are: 1) planning to major in any criminal justice or related field; or 2) the sons, daughters, grandsons and/or granddaughters of someone who has served in the field of criminal justice. (Criminal justice includes, but is not limited to, law, legal studies, public safety, court services, law enforcement, fire science, forensic science, juvenile/family justice, protective service, corrections, parole, homeland security, environmental protection).

Amount of the Scholarship:

Between 1,200 dollars and 1,500 dollars

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a graduating senior from an accredited high school in the school year of application OR be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in an accredited college or university. The award is contingent upon acceptance by and/or attendance at a duly accredited institution of higher education in the upcoming academic year.

Criteria:

Scholarship(s) will be awarded on the basis of the applicant’s character, leadership qualities, scholastic aptitude, and connection to or interest in law enforcement.

Submission and Deadline:

Scholarship applications and supporting documentation should be scanned and emailed to CCJECA@gmail.com by April 15, 2021 or mailed to CCJECA, P.O. Box 407, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-0407 (post-marked no later than April 15, 2021).  If emailing your application, please scan the application and supporting documents as one file saved under the applicant’s first and last name.

Additional material to be submitted with this application (your application will not be complete without this material):

  1. Test Scores & Transcripts.  If the applicant is a graduating high school senior, the application MUST be accompanied by SAT or ACT scores, a high school transcript, including the applicant’s class rank if it is kept by the school. If the applicant is already enrolled in college, the application MUST include an official college or university transcript, including the applicant’s class rank if kept by the school.
  • Essay.  All applications MUST include a short five hundred (500) word essay on the applicant’s career goals.
  • Letters of Recommendation.  For applicants currently in high school, letters of recommendation are required from the applicant’s high school guidance counselor and two additional people not related to the applicant. Applicants who are already enrolled in a college/university should submit two letters of recommendation from people not related to the applicant.
