FRANCIS J. CARINO SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

This is the application for the Francis J. Carino Juvenile Justice Scholarship, which will be awarded by the Connecticut Criminal Justice Educational & Charitable Association, Inc. to a college, university or law student who intends to pursue a career in juvenile justice. (Juvenile justice is defined as the area of criminal law that deals with the actions and well-being of persons who are not adults and includes, but is not limited to, the fields of law, public safety, court services, probation, law enforcement, fire service, forensic science, cyber-crimes, protective service, corrections, parole or homeland security.)

Amount of the Scholarship:

1,000 dollars

Eligibility:

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school and intend to pursue a career in juvenile justice. The award is contingent on the recipient’s attendance in a program of study at an accredited college, university, or law school in the next academic year.

Submission and Deadline:

Scholarship applications and supporting documentation should be scanned and emailed to CCJECA@gmail.com by April 15, 2021 or mailed to CCJECA, P.O. Box 407, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-0407 (post-marked no later than April 15, 2021).  If emailing your application, please scan the application and supporting documents as one file saved under the applicant’s first and last name.

Criteria:

The award is based on scholarship, character, and leadership qualities and demonstrated commitment to juvenile issues.

Additional material to be submitted with this application (your application will not be complete without this material):

  1. Transcript.  The application MUST be accompanied by a transcript from a college, university or law school in which the student is currently enrolled.
  2. Essay.  A five hundred (500) word essay describing the applicant’s interest in juvenile justice and career goals.
  3. Resume.  A resume describing the applicant’s work experience.
  4. Letters of Recommendation.  Two letters of recommendations from persons unrelated to the applicant.

Interview:

An oral interview may be required.
