Criteria
Scholarship(s) will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's character, leadership qualities, scholastic aptitude and connection to or interest in law enforcement. Applicants must be a graduating senior from an accredited high school in the school year of application or be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university. The award is contingent upon acceptance by and/or attendance at a duly accredited institution of higher education in the upcoming academic year.
Additional Mandatory Materials
SAT or ACT scores and transcripts. All high school seniors must submit either SAT or ACT scores and a high school transcript with class rank if applicable. If the applicant is already enrolled in college, the application must be accompanied by an official transcript and the student's class rank, if applicable. These materials are mandatory and your application will not be considered without them. A 500 word essay describing the applicant's career goals. Letters of recommendation. High school students must submit letters of recommendation from their high school guidance counselor and two people not related to the applicant. College students must submit two letters of recommendation from two people not related to the applicant.
Submission & Deadline
The scholarship application and supporting documentation should be scanned and sent to CCJECA@gmail.com no later than April 26, 2024. Documents should be scanned as one pdf file and saved under the applicant's first and last name. Applicant packages can also be mailed to: CCJECA, P.O. Box 407, Rocky Hill, CT 06067, postmarked no later than April 26, 2024.
John M. Bailey Memorial Scholarship
The John M. Bailey Scholarship was founded in honor of John M. Bailey, former Chief State’s Attorney of Connecticut. Mr. Bailey’s long and distinguished career in law enforcement has left an indelible mark on the Division of Criminal Justice and these scholarships are awarded to preserve his legacy.
Eligibility
Multiple scholarships are awarded annually by CCJECA in Mr. Bailey’s honor. Eligible applicants are high school seniors enrolling in college or undergraduates enrolled in college who plan to major in any criminal justice related field or are the child or grandchild of someone who has served in the field of criminal justice.
Criminal Justice includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Law, Legal Studies
- Court Services, Public Safety
- Law Enforcement, Fire Science
- Forensic Science
- Juvenile & Family Justice
- Corrections, Parole
- Environmental Protection
- Protective Services
- Homeland Security
